Why this exists
A short, honest explanation of what this site is, why it’s free, and what happens if that ever stops working out.
The problem I kept running into
I used a lot of calculator and utility sites for games like this one over the years, and there’s a pattern to how most of them go. They start out small and useful, usually built by one person for free, with maybe one small ad to cover the hosting bill. Then a few more ads show up. Then the ads get bigger and louder. Then there’s a “premium” tier that removes the ads, then a membership just to see the full numbers, then the free version barely works at all. The tool that used to just help you got slowly, deliberately made worse so a worse version could be sold back to you. There’s a word for that now: enshitification. I’ve watched it happen to enough sites that I wanted to try building one that just… didn’t do that.
What I’m actually promising
As long as RentPerSecond gets enough support to cover what it costs to run, it stays exactly like this: free, no ads, no membership tier, no paywalled features. I’m not going to slowly turn the dial up on ads and then ask you to pay to turn it back down. If the support isn’t there, the honest outcome is that the site eventually goes offline — not that it gets worse and worse while I figure out how to monetize you.
What I’ve put into it
I built this on my own time, for free, and personally covered 12 months of hosting costs up front out of my own pocket before ever asking anyone for a dollar.

This is a passion project, not my job. I’m not quitting anything to run this, and it was never meant to replace a day job for anyone. It exists because I wanted it to exist, and because I’d rather build the thing I wished other sites still were.
If it disappears
If RentPerSecond mysteriously goes offline one day with no announcement, the plain explanation is that it didn’t get the donations needed to keep paying for hosting, and I made the call not to keep funding it indefinitely out of pocket. That’s not a dramatic ending — it’s just what happens to small, ad-free, member-wall-free projects when the maintainer can’t justify the ongoing cost anymore. If you’re reading this while the site is still up, that hasn’t happened, and every donation genuinely pushes that day further out.
